For Mother's Day: I Knew My Mother Really Loved Me When....

Life with my mother was not all hell. There were the good times as well, and I guess I needed a little bit of scrapper mentality in me, considering some of the things in life that I had to deal with. But I was always a meek, mild kid, and it was not easy having a tough mom. I think she loved, loves me as much as she can love anyone, but she has no idea of how I think, how I am. She did have a very tough life, herself, but so did my dad who was the gentlest soul I have ever met.

Happy Mothers’ Day to all moms, wonderful, or not. Usually there are some moments, some times that were not too rough even when the journey was over a rocky road.

…when she sent me this email becasue her card is going to be late.

From a petite woman who gave birth to six kids in eight years.

When my mom had the nerve to get a tumor when I was 12 I was so mad at her. How dare she ruin the whole summer by having to fly across the country to have some weird surgery that only one doc in the world was willing to perform? I had to stay home and watch my brother, we didn’t even get to go out there with her and my dad.

When she awoke from a coma of 3 days my brother and I were sent out to visit her. We entered the ICU and there were 6 patients situated within a few feet of the nurse’s station. All of them were covered in bandages, with bloody stiches and the typical hospital gown. There were machines and tubes and wires everywhere. I couldn’t tell which one was my mom.

Two things happened to me on that day:

 1. I realized that my mom might actually die, she was really sick and I wasn’t the center of the universe. (Remember I was 12)

My dad led us to her bed and when we got there she held up her hand (my dad said she wanted me to do the same). She held my hand and told me she loved me. That’s when I knew. No Doubt.

I love you, too, mom!!!
