<p>Guys, affirmative action! There’s been a lot of talk on this… It’s the same at all top universities and it’s been like this for quite a while. There’s been a lot of discussion regarding this on the Yale forum:</p>

<p>I’m not asian (I’m a serbian/white male). Though, my heart goes out to you guys. Its sad that just because collectively a group of people suceed, colleges feel the need to discriminate against them. I am all for socioeconomic-based affirmative action. However, I don’t really see why wealthy blacks or hispanics get a huge boost in admissions whereas poor whites/asians dont.</p>

<p>Someone should say that they’re Native American to get an easy admission. If the adcoms try to do anything about it later on, sue them for the racists that they are.</p>

<p>I hear there is a legion of activists in California who adamantly that Asians are discriminated against in elite college admissions.</p>

<p>We obviously can’t change this for our applications, I’ve given up seething at the racism in the colllege process and have just accepted it. Someday race won’t be a factor but like the article said last names will always give a clue. All applicants should just have numbers then instead of using their real names.</p>

<p>I’m not sure if not disclosing race would really help. I’ve heard that the US government will assign you a race, based on the reported races of your neighbors, if you don’t offer one on the census or other forms. I wonder if colleges have access to the kind of national data bases that would let them do that too.</p>

<p>^ I don’t think they would go through all that trouble if race was really omitted from the app. They have over 30,000 apps to look at. Schools always want more ethnic diversity I don’t see race going away for a VERY long time.</p>

<p>Honestly, I bet that if colleges could permit applicants to submit under whatever race and claim those applicants to be the race that they put down without some sort of potential legal backlash on their own part, they would do it. It gives them the statistical “diversity” that they want and if someone decided to go on a muckraking the colleges could claim that they “didn’t know” and that they aren’t the ones responsible for the validity of the info.</p>
