For the engineering supplement, can I add a diagram?

I’m supposed to explain my new engineering idea. Is it okay if I add a diagram?

Be careful of your word limit; a picture is worth a thousand words.

@mariambaby3 - I lol’d

Let’s be serious guys…

I also lol’d.

Quite witty.

epic win hahaha

hilarious!!!

omg, just answer the fricken question

^i loled harder

How would you even include a diagram? Would you link to it? Or is there a place to upload additional files? (I applied to colleges 3 years ago so idk if anything has changed since then with the common app.)

If you can find a sensible way to add a diagram, I would go for it. If it helps you explain your idea, why not? Make it look professional, use CAD software or something, it might even impress them.

i declare the “pigs” in my username to be a cc trademark!! >=[[[ arghhhhhh violation violation

im going to comment on the irrelevant comment. that was really funny

If I was on the admissions committee, I would be more impressed if an applicant can successfully describe an engineering process qualitatively and without the use of numbers / equations / diagrams; it’s understood that in most cases this is harder to accomplish. I’d recommend you first try to come up with a words-only explanation and see if you feel comfortable using that for submission (and then throw in a diagram if you don’t). The engineering school stresses the importance of communication (hence the communications course requirements), and I would think that you can use this opportunity to impress them on that front.

I would think that for this particular section of your application, the clarity of your explanation would carry almost as much weight as the actual engineering idea.

Good luck to you.

actually I would be pretty impressed if the applicant was able to make a functional ascii picture.

Don’t you upload a file to the common app? See if it lets you upload one that contains a picture.

The wordlimit point is a good one though, do you really want to risk it? :P
