For the next cycle (for class 2014): RD or EA?

Obviously the class of 2013 RD hasn’t even gone through yet, but based on the results of this years EA, would it better for an unhooked, high performing applicant to apply RD over EA?

Or alternatively stated: As a non-legacy, minority, athelete, (etc.) is it better to apply RD over EA?
because no one wants to waste an EA, especially if you would have actually had a higher chance RD

I would actually recommend it, but wait until you see the results of this classes’ RD round to make any decision.

If I were re-applying next year, I would probably hold off, even if Stanford were my dream school.

There’s just no consistent pattern to measure yourself against, and you’re going up against elite competition with basically the same Accept/Defer(Waitlist)/Reject ratios of the regular round.
