<p>I am staunchly against lying on a resume, primarily on principle – but if these hiring managers meet ten liars in their lifetime, it’s not necessarily true that all ten would get caught, or even that 57% of those ten would get caught. What the statistics actually say is that 57 percent of hiring managers have caught a lie on at least one candidate’s application. So many of those may have only caught one of the ten liars, etc., while the other nine would slip by.</p>
<p>The point of this is the percentage of hiring managers who’ve caught a lie before need not be equal, related, or remotely close to the percentage of liars who get caught (which is the statistic liars should actually be concerned with).</p>
