besides personal satisfaction, lol

Nothing, unless a HS is the furthest education you have.

ahh, thanks

Therefore nothing that most people who opt for it need. But still, it’s not that much effort to obtain either.

Ah, funny I was wondering the same thing. I had no idea what the honors thing meant…just wish I was in NHS or something. I didn’t get any cool ropes or medals for my gown. :P

Actually, when applying for your residency (med school), I saw that they ask for what type of HS Diploma you acquired. So…if they see a person with an Advanced Diploma with Honors, good grades in college (3.9-4.0) and heck of solid research, they’d be impressed. Unfortunately, they raised the regents grade to be 90 or higher on ALL of them. Huh!!! Im going to work my butt off for it.

@Yaziinyz What???^^^^ Since when?

whattt about regents grades and 90? I do not stand a pray if so!

i hate the regents, their pointless and a waste of money.

it sets you apart from the students

LOL for some reason I have a hard time believing that a medical school will care about your high school diploma for the residency requirement.

There really isn’t a point to it. I got it. Wasn’t really a big deal. Especially considering how easy the regents are.

I don’t think there easy at all, this year im taking the Bio,Algebra and Global Regents. I’m going to struggle.

Not to mention there a waste of money for New York State.

There are like four different diplomas you can get anyway NYS doesn’t make any sense especially that they make the curve harder when you don’t need it to graduate so what is the point of having regents in those classes.

Actually, they do ask for HS info. Here’s the link to an application copy. Look in the second page. It asks for high school degree, type, name, etc.

Look in my previous post in this topic.

@star8nn since this year. I was shocked. Now, I have to retake my Chem regents.

@Yaziinyz where did you read that? My teachers have not said anything regarding the mastery level being changed. I’m taking the chem regents this year. I’m nervous, to get mastery I’d could only get 10 things wrong, and the fact that I wouldnt be able to retake it til the following June is terrifying!

@starr8nn I’m telling you exactly what my school counselor said. Listen, since ur taking Chem too, I have some advice. Go online and do ALL old chemistry regents, if not, do AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Treat it as if it’s the real thing. I swear to you, you’ll see the same questions (except reworded differently) on the real test. I had an 85 on my Chem regents. I honestly didn’t have the best teacher. And the one day b4 the regents, I opened up my lap top, gathered my notebook and did a lot of old regents exams. If I didn’t practice w/ old exams, I would have gotten a 70 or something. Now, I’m going to study again and hopefully reach the 90.

Yaziinyz -

Where did you get the info about needing 90+ on all regents to get the advanced designation?

When my D graduated in '09, you needed a 90+ average of the required regents. She had scores below 90 but also those above 95 and it averaged out.

Is it 90+ for current juniors? What does my son do? He scored in the 80’s on the last Math B ever given but has 95 and up on everything else (still needs to do USH and English next week but those are easy.

@Joan52 I never said a 90 on the events for the advanced diploma. I said 90+ on the regents for the advanced diploma with honors. Big difference. Honors makes the whole meaning change.

Its pointless, unless you plan to go to a SUNY or CUNY. Trust me I’ve been through this. A majority of private colleges in NY could careless about it, and many private high schools don’t even do regents because their classes are more rigorous. If you’re going out of state it won’t matter much. The regents are EASY, I got one with honors myself.

And medical schools such as the top ones don’t look into high school info.
