First of all, congrats for you all for getting into BU. For many years, BU has become more and more competitive. While I feel fortuante to be accepted from BU, I am worried about money. Since I’m an international student, I can’t get any financial aid either. Any suggestions?

i am in the exact same situation. i’m also intl. i’m applying for a govt scholarship…but it’s not even full. i’m worried too.

SAME

I don’t know what other options I have.

i NEED the money seriously
i didnt do FAFSA (i wouldnt qualify anyways) but no scholarships…
my parents are going to have to pay for my brother’s college tuition at yale, which WILL cost like 45000 along with mine
i got into the accelerated liberal arts/medical degree program, which was one of my top choices
unfortunately, i now have to make the hard decision betwn this and another 7 year program that is done through a state college, which is about 3 times as cheap as BU

some ppl have suggested to me that i call the program director and explain the situation and see what happens… do you think i could get any money?

Wow thats a tough choice. Which state school?

it;s at university of illinois at chicago, called the GPPA program, 7 years, but waaay cheaper, probably by over 20,000

Take UIC. It’s a solid program, and the medical school is not that bad compared to BU. You will be a lot happier in the long run in terms of debt. I don’t see any difference in the schools i.e. city wise/education/weather.

Boston and Chicago are awesome cities, both are fairly chilly, and you will get a great education either place. If you value money, I think the less debt route would be the best. But as always this is my opinion, take it with a grain of salt. Decide what is more important to you, and make a list of pros and cons about each program if you havent already.

This has helped me a lot; it’ll help you too. Let me know if you have any more questions, park.

Is the Chicago program affiliated with a hospital like BU? Which city do you prefer? After all 7 yrs. is a long time to be somewhere. I hear great things about the city of Chicago but Boston is so close to the ocean and NYC.

Do you guys think it’s worth it for an int’l to get loan (i.e. Stafford) just to go to BU?

Yes. If you really want to do don’t worry about the loan since you’ll have lots of time to gradually pay it off.

Thanks dogs. I’m actually a Canadian student. My other choices are Waterloo - Financial Management Program (with Co-op) $22 k
UBC - Commerce (cheapest choice as I live in Vancouver)
Queens - Commerce $15 k
U of Toronto - Commerce $ 20 k

My first choice out of these 4 is Waterloo…it’s half the price of Boston and I’ll be working 4 months every year so my tuition will cost 16 k / year. I’m really not sure whether paying extra to go to Boston will promise a better career perspective. Also, what about graduate school perspectives? Does anyone know?

I have many relatives in BC so I know Vancouver is a beautiful and interesting city and UBC is a great college. I don’t think one school or another is ever the defining factor in one’s future happiness, ability to attend grad school, or finances. And yetl, living in the US and getting an education here, for a Canadian, will set you apart and that is an advantage both career wise, especially in our evolving global realities, and as far as having diverse multi-cultural experiences. Perhaps you can connect with current BU studenst that are Canadian to get their perspective.
