FOR THOSE WHO HAVE HARD TIME UCB vs UCLA

I found out that there’s a new grant this year? The National SMART Grant awards up to $4k to students who are in the hard sciences, qualified for Pell Grant and maintains a 3.0 GPA. This makes me wonder if I should go to an easier school where I might actually have a chance of scoring above the B- (2.7) curve? But if you have no financial need, then the SMART Grant won’t be able to influence your decisions.

Someone else??

I havent submitted my SIR yet. I’m also trying to decide between cal and ucla. i live in socal. i visited cal last weekend, it was beautiful. the program for my major (psych) seemed better cause its more broadbased, i hear ucla is more biopsych. the neighborhood around berkeley seemed nicer too (but also more expensive which is a major concern to me,ill be living off campus), im also having trouble trying to decide if i want to move so far away cause my family and friends are here.

“the neighborhood around berkeley seemed nicer too (but also more expensive which is a major concern to me,ill be living off campus)”

I don’t think it’s more expensive than Westwood or even surrounding LA area.

really? From what Ive seen, which is only a rough estimate, berkeley has been about $100 dollars more a month than a similar apartment around ucla. maybe im looking in the wrong places? just craig’s list, there definantely isnt as many “for rent” signs around the berkeley area like i saw at ucla

Are the cheaper prices at UCLA as close to campus?

actually going back to craigs list i think im wrong. i think i had been told that the bay area was much more expensive than LA (especially frisco) but now they seem about the same price, in fact cal may be cheaper. thanks for pointing it out, i might have kept that misconception and had it effect my decision

I’m not sure how it works for transfers and housing, but generally, I think UCLA now guarantees four years of housing for incoming freshmen (does it apply to tranfers? two years of housing?), and has a lot more triples than Berkeley, which guarantees two years of housing for freshmen (not sure what it is for transfers), and has mostly doubles.

Who hasn’t decided, and why haven’t you decided?

UCLA guarantees one year for transfers, as does UCB.

Do orientations for UCLA transfers fill up and close? I havent submitted my SIR yet and I want to get the earliest date.

Finally, I decided to go to UCLA…
It was the toughest call in my life.

still havent decided, but i feel like im leaning towards berkeley. but i preferred ucla just a week ago. its so difficult to decide.

Well, we have 2 more weeks…So on the last day of May, whichever side the pendulum is on…

I have not submitted my SIR but have firmly decided to attend UCLA!!!
