<p>I think the Prez (or Gonzalez) should be able to hire and fire Attorneys General as they darn please, even for political reasons. Hey, that’s how they got the jobs to begin with! The story isn’t about the firing, but about the political pressures placed on Attorney Generals to pursue, or speed up, or even provide information on ongoing investigations, and any efforts made to cover it up.</p>

<p>And I think that’s just fine. This is apparently what the person considered the best qualified person in the entire country to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court by the President suggested (we now have an acknowledged second-rater), and he would have done well to take her advice.</p>
