For Transfer Students / STEM majors. How much higher does your GPA have to be than the minimum ?

Let’s say the minimum GPA requirement for a school you want to transfer to is 2.5. If you’re a STEM major what does your GPA have to be to get in?

In state?

OOS?

It depends on the school and the specific major.

Not all schools have enough transparency for outsiders to know.

Would .5 above minimum generally be safe ?

Again, it depends on the school and specific major.

For example, in state transfer applicants to SJSU in 2018 needed a 2.0 to get into materials engineering, but a 3.6 to get into computer engineering.

Lol wow, any chance I can get info on that for University of Alabama and Auburn?

For more information, I’m keyed in on U of Alabama . I’m a Computer Science and MIS double major. 2.6 overall, 2.87 at my current college. Last year I’ve achieved a 3.0 GPA. I have 2 other colleges on my transfer credits. My GPA actually was terrible my first 2 years of college about 5 years ago but the last 2-3 years it’s been about a 2.85-3.0. My Gen Ed courses were mainly As and Bs. Physics, Data structures, Stats , Chemistry is what really wrecked by GPA. That being said, I’ve applied to U of A MIS program and it says 60+ credit hours 2.5 GPA for admission to the program and I have above that especially the last few years. The first 2 years of my college experience sucked, I dropped out, worked for 1.5 years then went back and have been pretty good ever since in difficult courses. I did mark I’m a permanent resident of Alabama because I’m moving there with my fiance.

If the information is not on the web site, you can try asking directly what the thresholds were.

Okay thank you, from what I’ve read generally the transfer requirements are very similar to the program requirements.
