For UGA Admitted and Interested

“Space,
Thanks for doing this. I am still not 100% sure that I’ll be coming to UGA. I loved Athens and the school when I visited though. Do you know much about the Honors program and the kids in it? Are they pretty cool? Is the Honors dorm good? Should I stay in it ( I got in Honors). I want to be in Honors, but have a nice…mmm… mixture of friends too. Can 18 year olds get into the music clubs downtown? THANKS!!”

No problem, a lot of people did the same for me last year.

I know quite a few people in the Honors program and they all seem to enjoy it.

The Meyers dorm is very nice (as patel pointed out), but not all Honors kids live there. It has a reputation for being quite a bit quieter and more of the “nerdy” kids on campus. That is a generalization though from experience, I have a few fraternity brothers that lived there and while they didn’t love it, they find it pretty nice. The rooms are bigger (and nicer), general facility is nice, have the quad right outside where theres always being playing football or ultimate frisbee (real big), right next to the South Parking deck, and right across the street from Snelling and major bus stops.

Although if you’re looking for a little better balance and to meet more people that (again a generalization) are competant in school work, but also enjoy having a good time you might want to consider one of the other freshman dorms. I personally know several honors students in Russell that do fine.

As far as the music venues downtown I believe most places you can get in under 21 and just get your hands x’d but this varies from place to place. Without going into detail I will just say that the downtown Athens music/bar scence really is a huge advantage of going to UGA.
