Ford Edge vs. Toyota Venza

Any opinions out there on either car? We are considering Ford Edge SEL vs. Toyota Venza LE (both are V6 and AWD). We seem to like the exterior of the Edge better, but the front seat “cockpit area” of the Venza felt roomier. With similar equipment, the Venza is about $1-2K cheaper MSRP-wise.

You may want to check actual street prices or estimates thereof (e.g. from http://www.truecar.com ).

Before deciding whether to get an option or trim level that includes touch screen controls, be sure to try them while driving to see if you like them, or find them annoying.

I used to check www.Edmund.com and their forums for specific cars. Sometimes, threads reveal common problems owners have with their cars.

All things being equal, I’d go for driver comfort over exterior appearance.

I’ve used true car through AAA–best offer on each car were about the same dollar amount, so Venza stays a little bit cheaper. I’ve had price offers from dealers but nothing to make me bite. I will be “talking” with the internet sales depts.–when we bought last car, they were more direct and less of the game playing and back and forth.

I have no interest in touch screen, pain in the ----------.

I have this strange expectation that when I ask for your “best price”, I really mean it!! The game playing angers me. When you buy a house for hundreds of thousands, you know exactly what kind of deal you are getting. When buying cars, I ALWAYS feel like I’ve been screwed, no matter what I pay. I find the process disgusting. Cut the crap, car dealers, and tell us the REAL selling price from the start!!!

I have looked at both vehicles pretty closely. They are both great vehicles. I am not sure you can go wrong with either one.

I just got a 2013 Edge SEL and I love it. It feels like I am driving a la-z-boy recliner around, very roomy and comfortable. Gas mileage has been surprisingly good. I haven’t seen the other one you are considering to compare, but I adore my Edge. It’s like heaven. I am told the differences between the 2013 and 2014 are quite small.

I don’t love the touch screen interface but have gotten used to it. I hardly have to use it for much, the most common controls have “normal” buttons.

We rented a Venza on one trip and H didn’t like it. He felt that the sides of the vehicle were further out that expected and then other vehicles we are used to driving. He took that off the list of potential cars we might buy. If you can go to your Hertz or other used car dealer and test drive, it might be useful. Have no experience with Ford Edge.

We have a Venza and love it. Very comfy including the back seat and the cargo room is good. It’s actually our second Venza.
