Fordham Class of 2024

Just logged into the portal. Accepted to Rose hill. Biological sciences with NMSF scholarship with full tuition waiver. Very exciting.

Would love to hear what other NMSF award winners are thinking. Is Fordham your top choice With this award? For me it has now jumped over my state U.

My Daughter was also accepted at Rose Hill; Political Science. No scholarship though.
SAT: 1410
GPA 3.6 UW
lots of EC’s, Honors, AP’s

Accepted Rose Hill EA! My first application & first admission decision!

Also got the Dean’s Scholarship.

No word on my major or the advanced track MBA program. Should I write to ask or?

Objective:

SAT I (breakdown): 1500 (750/750)

SAT II: 680 Math II (Retaking for a perfect score), 680 US History

GPA: Our school only reports WGPA out of 100, mine is a 97.54 and I got all As except for a B in AB Calc this MP.

Rank: Not calculated by my school

AP (place score in parenthesis): APUSH (5), APHUGE (4), AP Enviro (4)

Senior Year Course Load:
AP Gov, AP Spanish, AP Calc AB,
-Half yr courses-
Women’s Literature and Contemporary Novels (Liberal arts college format elective English courses), CPR (Our health course), Public Speaking, Intro to Journalism, CP Astronomy, Managing Personal Finance (grad requirement)

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel, etc.):
AP Scholar, National Honor Society, Like 5-6 Model UN Awards

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Model UN (Senior Officer), Debate Club (Varsity Captain and Co-Founder), Student Council (Whole school elected Officer-Historian), Karate (Black & Red belt in Tang Soo Do), Jazz band guitarist, Campaign intern for Congressional bid that won in 2018, Digital Arts Club, Co Teacher for local Nature Classes for little kids, Golfer (Recreational and technically an alternate for the Varsity team)

Job/Work Experience: Babysitting throughout my Junior yr consistently for a family once a week, Microsoft Excel programming for an orthopedic firm in town this winter

Volunteer/Community service: My community service is really through my activities (NHS, Student Council, community garden) in which I’ve volunteered a lot of time to. I also volunteered for the Congressional campaign as above mentioned.

Summer Activity: I took a class on Natural Resources in the Global Market at Columbia this summer. I also spent a lot of time doing research for a local exploratory committee for a community leader considering a Commissioners campaign. He chose not to run due to family things, but I put it on my app because it was a lot of time and effort with gathering voter data, working on mapping with Map GIS and more.

Essay: My common App essay is about losing my aunt to suicide while in the4th grade and the event influencing my discovery of politics as a passion/outlet, in which I have become motivated on healthcare and mental health policy.

Recommendations:

Teacher Rec #1: My AP Enviro teacher, really kind guy who I did a lot of important research projects with and knew my academic commitment

Teacher Rec #2: My sophomore English teacher (yes ik that’s a controversial decision) who is really personable and I have had the most vulnerable and honest conversations out of all my teachers. She helped check my grammar on my essays before writing her rec letter and I think probably highlighted my personality traits. She’s like lowkey my best friend as a teacher so.

Counselor Rec: He’s an uber dry guy but I’ve been the most committed to college with him and he’s seen my brute passion/drive. He also told me he mentioned some personal struggles both academically and at home that he saw me overcome in a really positive way. This one makes me nervous but he said it went well.

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: International Political Economy
State (if domestic applicant): NJ
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Middle Class
No Legacy Status-my parents attended their state school

My friend was accepted to Rose Hill. 4.0 UW, 1450 SAT.

All those that got the National Merit Semifinalist tuition waiver, did you all submit FAFSA? Anyone get the scholarship and not fill out the fafsa?

Hi everyone! Congrats to those who got in!! Admitted EA for Lincoln Center (SAT 1480, wGPA: 4.74). To those who have been through this process before: are all scholarship/merit aid offers made at this point in the process, or can offers still be made when financial aid packages are sent out in February?

(Edit: full IB student, AP Lit (5), APUSH (5), IB Econ SL (7), really strong letters of rec, pretty good ECs)

Just accepted to Rose Hill - Gabelli School of Business
Dean’s Scholarship

my breakdown:

Female from NY
White
WGPA: 98.54%
ACT: 34
9 APs (no score lower than 4)
Awards and strong ECs

Accepted at Rose Hill
Major: Gabelli Business
SAT: 1400
GPA: 3.76 uw 4.46 weighted
AB Calc Senior Year, consistent B’s in Math ( so the business school can happen with bad math)
9 AP tests (including Senior Year) 4 fours and 2 three’s
Ok EC’s (I did State XC, Student Council, 1000 service hours, and Governor’s Schools, but personally I don’t believe EC’s make much of a difference)
…
other stuff I’m probably forgetting

Moral of the Story, is there a place to check for scholarships? I’m not expecting any, bcs I’m kinda average for fordham, but I’m curious lol

Yes, we submitted the FAFSA and the CSS. I didn’t see the point of holding out. We didn’t want to jeopardize DD20 receiving the scholarship, so we decided to go ahead and give them everything.

I got in EA to Rose Hill! It did not say my major or the program I got into. I think I may have done undecided haha. I also got the Fordham scholarship for Semifinalists!!!
33 ACT.
3.6 UW
4.1 W
Lots of ECs and volunteer
Congrats everyone.

We also gave them everything they asked for: FAFSA/CSS before the stated deadline. Not going to mess around with losing out on $52,980 per year because I didn’t feel like to doing a form … no matter how much I hate those forms!

We are still looking at our options. D has full tuition offers from 5 colleges, full COA offers from 3 others.

Fordham’s fees and R&B are a little steeper than some other comparable schools, but really like their programs and the opportunities for internships, etc.

We will be doing some final visits in January/February and make some decisions.

Accepted to LC for Econ!
ACT: 25
GPA: 4.21 W
Took mostly AP and honors
Received Dean’s scholarship which was mentioned on the same page

*35 act

Accepted into Rose Hill EA!
GPA: 3.5 UW/4.2 W
ACT: 32 Superscore
Good LORs, essays, and ECS
Demographics- Lower class white female from the south
I haven’t received scholarships yet- but hoping I’ll get merit/FinAid

@CrackintoPieces

Agreed. I am assuming you are referring to full COA at Florida colleges/UA/UTD etc. Congrats.

Regarding Fordham though, I do see the advantage of NYC ecosystem for internships.

@silverpurple We only submitted FAFSA and not CSS Profile. But still got awarded the NMSF full tuition scholarship.

@CrackintoPieces Same here re: Jan/Feb visits. DS has some decent merit $ from a couple of schools, but Fordham was his reach. We didn’t expect him to even get in, let alone get merit aid. Now that he’s in, we need to explore what the possibilities are.

Anyone else going to the President’s reception in Hartford this Wed.? Just rsvpd.

Anyone get an merit money or does that come later ?

Ahhh just got accepted into the Honors Program! Apparently they only take 20 kids a year!
