Hi! I wanted to ask for your perspective on which school you would choose for someone planning to double major in economics and political science. My top two choices as of right now are UNC Chapel Hill and Fordham with an invite to the honors program. I’m in-state for UNC and Fordham awarded me a full-tuition scholarship that brings the cost of attendance down to about the same as in-state, so the financials are pretty much a wash and affordable either way (although I suppose Fordham’s cost of living would be higher).
My heart is honestly with UNC, but I keep wondering if it’s a poor decision to turn down proximity to NYC and all its internship and career opportunities.
I want to be somewhere with a lot of resources and options, including a wealth of research and extracurricular leadership opportunities available and great professors and academics. I would like to continue Mock Trial in college. I would like to be able to enter the workforce right out of college. I also do want to go to law school after working a few years, if that helps, but it’s really more of a longer term goal.
I think you should go with UNC because that’s where your heart is, and it is an excellent university with many opportunities. You can do summer internships in NYC, as a matter of fact Fordham and other universities in NYC sublet their dorms in the summer for students doing internships, so it is easy to find housing.
Congratulations on 2 unbelievable offers!!! This is truly a win-win.
If your heart is with UNC, then I would attend. As noted, you can plan to do internships over the summer in NYC…or anywhere. There is no shortage of opportunities at UNC, and you will find amazing profs, academics, etc.
I would have said Fordham for your interests but NYC isn’t for everyone and if you love UNC it’s a terrific choice, full of opportunities.
Congratulations
