Why would a US company think I would buy something from a person that can barely speak English or speaks English with an accent so thick I can barely make it out?

I know they save money by outsourcing these call centers, but how much money are they losing from lost sales. It is painful to listen to some of these sales pitches, even if I might be interested in the product.

I haven’t yet figured that one out. What’s particularly annoying is when they call me, and then a robot asks me to wait for a live person. And then the live person can’t speak English … Um … no.

There was a great thread several mos back about jokes played on telemarketers, with the classic one bing to pretend that the person called in during a murder investigation and was being pulled into the scenario. It was classic!

I am a small business man and occasionally I get a call at my office for something that I might be interested in. One word with a thick accent and it’s “Sorry, I am not interested.”

Calls at home are mostly blocked and the rest I don’t take.

Happymomof1—as someone who has listed both her business and home numbers AND “reported” and filed complaints…the do-not-call list is about as worthless a government program as there is. I get 3-4 calls a day on my work number and at least one a night on my home number. These companys know that the FTC is over burdened and not really willing to pursue anyone calling from Bangalore.

When I have the time an inclination, I like to waste their time as much as possible by implying that “yes, I am interested” and continuously putting them on hold.
