Ok so I looked at the UCSB website for the Ge requirements and this was what was posted:
I’m confused about the first option. How many foreign language classes do I need to take at UCSB to satisfy the requirement? 1 quarter? 2? 3? And for option 3: 7th, 8th, and 9th grade foreign language doesn’t count as a total of 3 years? If anyone can clear this up I would greatly appreciate it.

Re option 3: finishing the third year of a language in high school, even if that third year is in 9th grade, counts as 3 years of language. So Spanish 1 in 7th, Spanish 2 in 8th and Spanish 3 in 9th would meet the requirement if the grade for Spanish 3 was C or better.

I read the first option as applying to a person who has had some language but not 3 years, and who takes a placement test to see where they are. Maybe they land in level 1, maybe they land in level 2, or maybe they land in level 3. But they need to keep going until they have passed level 3. Each quarter of college language is considered to be equivalent to one year of a language taken in high school.
