Foreign Languages Requirement

I have taken 4 years of Spanish in high school. Do I need to take additional courses to meet UCLA GE requirements for Letter and Science college.

The GE requirements don’t require foreign language: it’s just one of the graduation requirements. Along with GE, there are bunch of other requirements to graduate (e.g. 180 units, american history and institutions, etc.) and foreign language happens to be one of them. As far as I know as an incoming freshman, unless you got a 3/4/5 on the AP spanish test, UCLA L&S doesn’t take HS classes as completion of the requirement. You could, however, try to place into spanish 4 or higher with the Portuguese and Spanish department’s spanish placement test that’s being given this fall. I’m doing that myself, having done four years of spanish at high school too.

If you took the AP Spanish test and got a 3 or higher, you meet the FL requirement already.

If not, you can take the placement test and see where you place. If you place high enough, then you don’t have to take FL.
