I just got out of middle school and is currently attending Forest Park High school (In GA). I have been here for two weeks now, and there are a ton of issues that have presented themselves to me earlier these two weeks. The seniors who graduated from this high school last year attended colleges that are bad (I’m really trying to not be offensive here, but this is the least insulting adjective that I can think of). These seniors had no care in the world for their education, and it was really disappointing. So, here’s the question:

FPHS made me take non-honor classes, and even JROTC, even though I excelled in the honor classes I’ve taken at my middle school. I even personally tried to talk to my counselor about switching me to honors, at which she replied a dry “no”. I’m literally telling you what happened. This school is lacking so much structure to it that it’s giving me a massive headache. Their counselors are too dried up and careless, while their teachers (not all, but most, or so I’ve heard) have horrible teaching abilities with superiority complexes. I hate this school, period. I WANT, I MEAN WANT, to attend an IVY LEAGUE, but I truly don’t think this school has what it takes to even come close to satisfying my simple academic needs. It’s simply horrible.

So I was wondering, how do you guys feel about Lovejoy High School? I’m really new to this, so I was wondering if it was possible to transfer out to another High School after two weeks of the school year are up.

Willy Wonka time: “Oh, so you say the graduating class of 2012 went to bad colleges? Please tell me how you knew everyone, where they went, their financial status, and social needs?”

I’d say give your school another two weeks. Try and make some friends. Give your school a chance because it’s still the beginning if the school year. They have ton of other student complaining about their schedule let alone clubs and event that they have to start up soon. If you really want honor classes in your schedule, get a parent involved. Schools start to listen when the parents aren’t happy.

Since they’re both in the same district you should be able to transfer…
I can’t find anything about where the 2012 grads in either school went to college…most schools in my area have a list of what 4-year colleges grads are going to attend (or at least say where the val and sal are going).

Remember however that school is what you make of it. No such thing as a public school that guarantees ivy league. no such thing as a public school that makes it physically impossible to go to ivy league.

My school is almost the same…don’t worry it will actually benefit you. If you stand out from the rest in your school, it will look very impressive in your transcript so I wouldn’t worry about it! My school said I can take an AP class but then sent me a message over summer saying that the class is full…it’s insane! Now I sent an email again but they won’t reply. So trust me I know what you’re going through and if transfer is an option then go for it but if not, it’ll get better (hopefully).

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. I only said the colleges the students from class 2012 are going to is bad because I’ve asked and asked. I asked one person, then asked them about EVERYONE that they knew and where they were going. I then asked another person and repeated the process. It really did give me a good idea about where everyone was going.

I guess I’ll see what I can do about the honor’s classes before deciding to switch to Lovejoy. It’s just that if I do transfer at a later time, the feeling of missing however many weeks there is a tad depressing.

Oh, and what did you mean by social needs? I’m not anti-social or anything, but why would a student just go to a college because of the potential social life they could have? I mean, I know that UGA is known as a partying college, but I doubt anyone would go there because of that.

Social needs as in they (a student of c/o 2012) want a small college, large college, college away from home, college close to home, college where friends are attending, college with a party scene, and so on.

I can see why someone would go to a party school. If they want to go to a school tht has a kickin’ party scene, they’ll go there. Of course there’s other factors…
