D25 has 4.0UW out of a class of ~390. She forgot to click the bubble and select decile/quartile/number and which % she would fall into with her grades (which is 5%). She’s now despondent that this will be a disqualifying oversight that will tank her future in all Common App schools. Any insights or experiences about how vital or not this is are welcome. At this late date, it’s not worth calling schools…. Right? (And how was that not a required question?)
I wouldn’t worry about it. Maybe her school submitted it, or maybe not. In any case I would bet the school would only really pay attention to rank if it was officially received from her high school and a lot of schools don’t rank. If you look a data from a lot of highly selective schools only a small portion of students actually submit rank. For example at Harvard only 29 percent of students submitted rank. At Stanford 18 percent. Good luck to your daughter.
It’s not. Admissions will see it in the transcript. And if it’s not in the transcript, she wouldn’t have put it in the app.
Correct
It is, unless it changed this cycle. You have to list the rank or indicate that the school doesn’t rank.
A non entity.
A student adding it is not official anyway - just like they have grades. It’d need to be validated.
And I believe most hs don’t even rank today.
Nothing to freak out over.
And hopefully she’s well qualified for the schools she applied to anyway - based on statistics, rigor, etc.
I wouldn’t lose sleep.
This isn’t an issue. Students are not expected to know their rank. Many high schools don’t rank at all. Many (most) colleges don’t consider rank. Her transcript will give the college all the info they need. Furthermore, her guidance counselor will indicate her level of rigor, so between that and her transcript, they will know her ranking, if they care at all. Hopefully this will reassure your daughter not to worry about this.
Thank you all!
