Forgot to tell advisor that I rescheduled appointment ... what will happen?

Hello all!

I’m freaking out a little right now because this morning I rescheduled an appointment (to declare my major as CS) with a CS advisor with Kevin Compton at 1:40 TODAY, because my schedule was simply too tight (meaning I wouldn’t make it). I ended up rescheduling it to a later date with Ben Kuipers, partly because of the fact that Kuipers researches in the areas of AI and computer vision, which relate to my current UROP research project and I wanted to see if he knew more about opportunities in the area.

Compton ended up sending an extremely blunt e-mail to me at 3, saying “You missed your advising appointment with me,” probably because I didn’t give him a 24 hour notice. When I read his e-mail, I felt really bad. :(

What will happen? I wanted to make a good impression on my concentration advisor, because I wanted to build a relationship with him, but I know I did something really stupid and rash.

Thanks!

nothing will happen at all.
don’t worry about it one bit.

Should’ve sent an email at the very least notifying your adviser of the change.

I would recommend shooting the adviser an apology email just to explain your circumstances. Your adviser will most likely not remember you so its probably not going to be terrible.

who cares? He’s just a little advisor with no bearing on your future. Send him a email, say “no sh1t…duh”

I would not advise being rude to advisers. You never know when you may need them to go to bat for you for something, they can be extremely helpful when you’re in a bind if they like you.

I would also recommend sending a quick email with an apology and just say you rescheduled and forgot to tell him. I’m sure it happens all the time.
