Someone in one of my neighborhood neighbor groups was incensed that her lawn had been “forked” for the second time. She was fit to be tied and threatening to press charges (she claimed to have a video of the offenders). Now (a) I have never heard of “forking” before, and (b) some of the responses to her rant were pretty funny ( e.g. someone said her response was forked up).
Am guessing she has a teenager and their friends did this instead of toilet papering or trenching the yard. This seems pretty harmless, and other than a minor inconvenience of having to pull out the plastic forks from the yard (which I’d have their kid do, if this was the kid’s friends) or simply call the parents to have the kids come back and remove them, whats the big deal?
Has anyone heard of this. It seems pretty harmless. Maybe slightly annoying that its the second time, but really… its kinda funny.
The photo they posted of this “crime” was pretty hilarious. They either had a lot of people working on this or some put a lot of time/effort into it. There were a lot of forks in their yard!!
Our XC boys do this to each others’ lawns as a prank when they are bored. It’s not a big deal. Good clean fun. Easier to clean up that toilet paper in the trees.
I think it depends on what the homeowner perceives as the intention behind the “forking”. If they think it’s being done because kid’s friends like kid and are just messing around with kid, that’s one thing. But if she think’s its done as a means to “bully” someone I can see why she’d feel differently about it. I had a falling out with my best friend in high school. It was a bit like a divorce in that she “got” the other friends in the group and I found a new friend group. One night the ex-friend group gathered up a bunch of For Sale signs and put them in our front lawn. No permanent physical damage done but it was very upsetting to me as it was clearly intended to hurt me.
So while it might seem funny to others, if there is a back-story that others aren’t aware of I could see why homeowner might be upset.
This is trash - plastic trash… it goes to landfill. At least in my neck of the woods, TP does not last long… the rain usually takes care of it quickly, and it composts on its own.
I would write something like “thanks for aerating my lawn, suckers!”
I used to have a neighbor who literally separated his grass stalks with a fork and used cuticle scissors to keep the blades an even length. That’s sort of what I thought you meant. I guess if a person really cares about their lawn, it could be upsetting.
I would take this over the TPing and EGGING that happened at our house when my D was a senior. I’m sure it was a prank, but the egging was bad and caused actual damage to the house. I told D to put out the word that we had cameras installed to make sure it didn’t happen again.
This is done here along with TPing and some other stuff as part of some sports teams. Sometimes supportive, but I think it can veer into bullying if done with bad intent. If a teen is the taget, going to the authorities could likely have a negative consequence for the teen.
