Formatting "Additional Information" FAQ

<p>When you preview part 2 of the application, the Optional response doesn’t seem to have the ‘same’ formatting as the text in sections 1 and 3. It seems to supress blank lines (sometimes) and the right margin is about 4 inches.</p>

<p>Is there anything in the ‘works’ to remedy this?

<p>So in the “additional information” section of MIT’s supplement, I put lines between paragraphs but in the preview all the blank lines disappeared and also there is no way I could indent any paragraph. I e-mail MIT admission a week ago but haven’t get any replies yet.

<p>So these (and a few others like them) have popped up on the forum. I talked to our database folks and here’s what they say: </p>

The removal of tabbing and the margins are not new. The margin is really not a big deal and the removal of tabs is slightly annoying, but they can just add a space in between paragraphs (probably preferred anyway).</p>

<p>I did a little investigation and found that Word may be playing a part as well. On the Word version I use, it automatically adds 10pt space after a line so it looks like a paragraph break, but it really isn’t. If you copy and paste text with this 10pt spacing, the system automatically removes it. If you copy and paste text with an actual paragraph break (remove this 10pt space and hit return), it works just fine.

<p>I’m sure Chris and the admissions counselors are buried, but thought I would ask anyway – did anyone figure out a way to make the text in the Optional response appear the same as the other responses (i.e. not smaller)? App already submitted so it’s probably a moot point, but it was a little odd to see the small formatting. Hopefully not an issue for the reviewers?</p>
