Then in Judge Persky’s court, the sentence would be two months.
“So if, as various news outlets are reporting, he lied in his letter to the judge about being a naive kid that never partied, can he be tried for perjury?”
I’m no lawyer, but I think since the statement was not ‘under oath’ it would not constitute perjury. But perhaps it could be taken into consideration when he tries to get released after 3 months for ‘good behavior’
On the Dad’s letter front - While do think the word ‘action’ was a very, very tone deaf poor choice of words, I do think he did not mean it to come across as a slang term for sex. But his ‘steak’ argument is just absurd. Gee - his son can’t enjoy steak anymore. Does he expect anyone to feel badly about that compared to what the girl went through?
Both prisoners will be socialized with other prisoners while in prison/jail. Both will have difficulty finding honest jobs after being released, due to their records. But the high SES safety net may allow the one from high SES family to escape from the recividism vicious cycle more easily, although he may be dependent on his family and living in their basement.
Brock is going to go home where he will have support.
And ribeye steaks.
Yeah, if he can choke one down. B-)
And surely Good English will come out of hiding and perform at a rally in support of Brock’s new “Just Say No to Promiscuity” initiative (because, really, women shouldn’t get so drunk because that’s what causes regrettable 20 minute blocks of action).
ETA [sarcasm] [/sarcasm]
Did they really drop it to 4 months??
Leslie Rasmussen has come out with another statement (#3 if you include the letter). It’s on fb and I can’t link it or copy and paste but it’s on the Brock Turner for Prison 2016 page.
Some news agency will likely pick it up soon so it can be linked. Here’s the last paragraph:
“… I fully understand the outrage over Brock’s sentencing and my statement. I can only say that I am committed to learning from this mistake. I am 20 years old, and it has never been more clear to me that I still have much to learn”.
This is a well written link…
Which is why if Persky is recalled, I won’t shed a tear.
Another article on rape culture.

Unfortunately, now women may fear even more reporting to the police which is exactly what they need to do. Look at all the media attention this one, single case is getting. The victim is probably scared some over zealous trash blogger or site is going to release something that exposes her and her family.

In most states, there’s a HUGE difference between jail and prison. Most people in jail are either awaiting trial --including folks who just don’t have the $ to post bail–or have been sentenced to a year or less, often for a misdemeanor. Prison is usually for people who have been convicted of felonies, often violent ones, and must serve at least a year. It’s unlikely you’ll meet someone convicted of murder or armed robbery in a jail. Put it this way: in most states, a prisoner is much more likely to be physically assaulted in prison than jail–which is one reason Persky sent this guy to jail, not prison.
No, they dropped it to 3. Official site says release date will be September 2.

@raclut, that’s a great link.
From your link…
sbballer, thanks for that link.
@momofthreeboys, I think I agree with you. I am not 100% sure.
Advocates for victims to report sexual assault crimes to the police and use the criminal justice system can not be happy with this puny sentence.
12 million people may have read at least part of the victim’s statement. This is amazing because I did not think 12 million americans could read.
Maybe Rasmussen’s third letter is the charm. She’s 20. I would let her group play.
momofthreeboys, I suspect she’s a lot more upset about the sentence, and the absence of justice, than she’s worried about “over zealous trash bloggers.” The fault here doesn’t lie with the media.
@DonnaL, that sounds right to me.
@momofthreeboys, I think I only agree with your first sentence. I knew I was not 100 percent sure I agree with you.
It would make sense that Brock would want to go back to Ohio for the probation part. Why would he want to stay in CA if he can’t go to school there?
Nobody said all of the 12 million people who have read at least a portion of the victim’'s statement are Americans. This case is all over the news internationally.
