I’m in my 2nd year of college at a small state school in West Texas, and I’m trying to gauge if I should take this foundation of elementary math I class . In other words, how difficult is this class, in comparison to College Algebra which I have already taken and passed.
I would talk to your academic advisor or a math professor at the college about this.
Probably the best bet is to talk to the professor who will be teaching the class. He or she should be able after a short chat to judge whether the course will be useful to you. What you are majoring in will also be important.
In terms of “College Algebra which I have already taken and passed”, there is a big difference between passing barely, versus passing with complete and comfortable mastery of the subject matter. If you are majoring in math, engineering, or physics, then math is central to what you are going to be doing going forward. For other sciences math might or might not be very important. There are a few other fields that also need a lot of math (econometrics is one example). If you are in one of these “math heavy” fields, then you need a mastery of basic math.
