Founder's League

Can someone clarify the Founder’s League - tks

The Founders League is these schools (as far as I can tell from various results):
Avon Old Farms, Westminister, Miss Porters, Hotchkiss, Kent, Trinity-Pawling, Taft, Loomis, Choate, and Kingswood-Oxford

Thanks, do you know the history behind the league. Isn’t it a sports division? Assuming it is an old traditional rivalry, why is Miss Porter’s School in it? So Taft could win a game? LOL, just kidding. Seriously, I would like to know.

Yes it is a sports league. I would bet that one of the school’s might have info about it on their web site, but I don’t know any more that the schools.

From the Trinity-Pawling web site:

[quote]
The school competes in the Founders’ League, a highly competitive arena which college recruiters consider a prime source for spotting some of the nation’s best prep-school talent. T-P’s league competitors, all of which are in New England, include Avon, Kent, Hotchkiss, Loomis, Choate, Taft, Kingswood-Oxford and Westminster/quote.

It is the most competetive of the leagues. I believe that Deerfield and Salisbury also compete in this league.

Yep, just FYI, the Founders’ League is a sports league and the following schools are members: Avon, Choate, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Kent, Loomis, Salisbury, Taft, Trinity-Pawling, Westminster.

Thanks for all your help. I looked at DA & Salisbury websites and could not find any mention of it. Found the logos for the following fm Avon web for a X Country meet for the 2007 Founders League

Avon
Choate
Hotchkiss
Kent
Kingswood-Oxford
Loomis
Miss Porters !?!?
Taft
TP
Westminster

According to a colleague who went to Kent back in the '70’s, they were in a different league and Miss Porters was not in their league. Kent now is in the Founders League and I guess Miss Porters is too. I’m beginning to feel there is a lot more to it all. The league has probably taken all sorts of twists and turns to become what it is today. OK, add Deerfield & Salisbury. Thanks again for the info.

The Loomis site does not mention DA or Salisbury and neither does the TP site.

The actual “league” all of these schools (and many others) compete in is the Western New England Preparatory School Soccer Association (WNEPSSA). It is considered to be one of the most competitive hs leagues in New England.
Maybe “Founders” is some sort of subdivision? The main league, in which playoffs take place, is NEPSAC (New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference).
Soccer playoffs actually begin this week and the WNEPSSA schools competing in Class A are Avon, Loomis, NMH, and Hotchkiss.

The T-P website listing is correct. Neither Salisbury or Deerfield are members of the original Founder’s League, 'tho Salisbury would like to be. In football, most of the Founder’s Teams plus Salisbury play in the Erickson League…
However, both Salisbury and Deerfield are members of a NEPSAC hockey subdivision called the Founders League.

Many refer to the large prep school league which plays western New England D-1 lacrosse as the Founder’s League. While there is a Founder’s League champion, again neither Salisbury or Deerfield compete there. The Western New England D-1 league consists of all the Founder’s teams and adds Canterbury, Salisbury, Deerfield, Albany Academy, Northfield Nount Hermon.

Confusing? You bet.

I knew there was a reason I asked this question.

Thanks, I thought Deerfield and Salisbury were part of this league because they compete with these teams in lacrosse. I wonder where the original title came from?

Everyone keep stalking about it here (Choate). About getting into it. So I think it could be a ranking. Not sure. Definitely has to do with sports.

Choate is in the Founder’s League. What do you mean by a “ranking”?

The founders league is just the first, so “founding”, 10 private schools of Connecticut.

This is what I found out -
There are 12 schools in the Founders League plus two affiliates. They are:
Avon Old Farms
Choate Rosemary Hall
Ethel Walker
Hotchkiss
Kent
Kingswood Oxford
Loomis Chaffee
Miss Porters
Northfield Mt. Hermon
Taft
Trinity Pawling
Westminster
Two other schools are affiliated for Ice Hockey - Deerfield and Salisbury. All the schools are located in Connecticut with the exceptions of Trinity Pawling (NY), Deerfield and Northfield Mt. Hermon (Mass.)
