Fox Chase Cancer Center, Advice?

Recently my biology teacher told me about a program at Fox Chase Cancer Center–about 25-30 minutes away from me–where you become a student scientist with a mentor.
FCCC is rated 15 in the nation in cancer places by US News/World Report.
The issue is that it is two days/week for 2 hours a day, like right after school, and at the moment i don’t have my license. After the school year, it runs 8 weeks like a regular job. This is pretty in depth research, one past project was making a computer program to analyze gene expression in cancer cells.

Public transportation would be a possibility, but the train by my school is not on the same line, and, as a result, it is difficult to get down there. I need to get my permit, and the requirement is 6-months of permit then you can test for license.

This is a big time commitment, and its a little tough, but do you think this is a program which will improve my shot at getting into good schools? (I have a genuine interest in it, so it’s not just like i am doing it for resume purposes.) Has anybody in the Philadelphia area ever done this? (They only take 12 and 12 alternates so likely not)
