Foxes are becoming a problem for rare nesting shore birds. The fox hide in the dunes and prey on the birds. I had never seen a fox in my neighborhood until this spring. Bunny population seems to be down, which is better for the plants but bad for the bunnies. And the deer eat more of the garden anyway.
@BunsenBurner , I thought your post was a Haiku
It reminded me of the night I brought our now grown puppy home. I traveled all day to get him and I took him out to pee. I heard an owl hooting nearby and I was terrified it was going to swoop down on our new baby !
We have no foxes but we have lots of coyotes. They kill and eat any dogs or cats they come across. If your dog gets out of the yard you have about 1 or 2 days to find it before the coyotes find it first.
Unlike coyotes, foxes are solitary, which means they probably would not try to tackle any half-way big dog. They might eat cats though.
Sometimes at night we can hear a frenzy of coyote yipping and yelping as the pack takes down some animal, usually an unfortunate dog.
Yes, in CA and NM my friends and relatives keep close watch on their pets for concerns about potential coyote attacks.
@BunsenBurner, the crow was at Green Lake. It flew in circles around a grassy part of the park with this terrified duckling squeaking away before disappearing over the trees. Lots of spectators, as you can imagine!
I haven’t seen any coyotes where we live , but I know they are here. A couple of years ago, there was a local man that had some rather severe mental health issues that shot one and posted a picture of the body on FB. He wasn’t supposed to be shooting anything in a neighborhood, and probably shouldn’t have had access to firearms either
