Fracture Mechanics

Hi, I am studying structural engineering and currently taking a graduate-level fracture mechanics. I am wondering how important fracture mechanics is in practice, is it practically in practice?

As always, your opinion is much appreciate it.

As you might imagine, you won’t have a fracture mechanics expert hanging out at the job site of a skyscraper. Those sorts of jobs are more in the background and usually fall into the area of fundamental research and product life-cycle management. It can be used for practical purposes, but you won’t be out in the field doing it most likely.
