Vlines, great reminder! Also, I believe pet-friendly shelters ask the pets be crated.

I am in NYC, and I am so thankful I don’t have to evacuate. I can’t even imagine evacuating with four animals and no car. Thankfully, I have them all prepared and enough supplies to last at least a few days.

Apparently Deval Patrick has made the request that schools, universities, and private businesses in MA be closed. At the moment, it’s just kind of rainy here and not even that cold, but it’s not supposed to be bad yet.

I read that Somerville, MA is pushing Monday trash pickup up to start at 5 am and hopefully get trash collected and cans moved somewhere secure early.

Well, they have always taken the attitude that if parents have to go to work, the schools should be open. And stay home if in your judgment it is unsafe to get to school.

There are businesses that do their own closing by what my town does, and we made the front page of the Globe one year because we were the only town that didn’t close school.

H realized that our shower-tub was leaking this morning (:() and spent the day doing a temp fix on that, in between working on gutters, drainspouts, etc.

Just back from Jersey shore. The ocean already looks very ugly and there’s still 24 hours until landfall. It was getting ready to breach the temp dunes that were piled up yesterday. While we were there, the fire department was going door to door to recommend evacuation and taking everyone’s names & numbers. We were told to expect at least 10 days without power and significant flooding.

Back in NH and it’s just light sprinkling and not windy at all. Quite a difference between the coast and inland right now.

I received an email that our servers along the east coast (upper half) will be shut down tonight and there’s no time specified as to when they will be back up. This probably means that going to work tomorrow isn’t a good idea as our systems will be down. My development server is in another part of the country so I should be able to work from home but not from the office.

What drives me nuts is that no company I’ve ever worked for has ever closed for these kind of occasions. You get into the office, work at home, or take a vacation day. Lose your electricity and not able to use your laptop? Tough. So I hope my power stays on. I want to save my time off for the holidays.

Our chicken was delicious with sufficient leftovers for tomorrow. Dan Malloy was just on TV. He was pretty clear…if you don’t HAVE to go out, stay home. Many businesses and schools have closed. ALL of the colleges in CT are closed at least Monday…many Monday and Tuesday.

Just got off the phone with D1 who lives in Manhatten. She got an email from her boss saying who was expected to be at work tomorrow. The folks from NJ and Westchester and other boroughs don’t have to be there. But my D1 is. She lives 40 blocks and and a few avenues away from her work. To none NYC folk, that is at least an hour walk in good weather. With no bus or subway service, it will be next to impossible to find a taxi, epecially at the end of the day when conditions are suppose to be getting worse. So an hour walk in a hurricane. Really??
