Frankenstorm

Winds are now picking up Williamsburg. Ironically, the college sent out an email about thirty minutes ago stating that the campus is in good condition and Tuesday plans will be made later today. Apparently, they didn’t realize that the storm hasn’t actually gotten here yet. >.<

The gusts are gradually getting stronger. I’m not sure how the power situation is going to go yet.

My daughter lives in Brooklyn. She is not answering her cell or email. Anyone know how it is there right now?

Mayor Bloomberg just announced NYC schools are closed. Tunnels are closing at 2 pm. Not a lot of rain, just a lot of wind.

amending posts. checked the con ed site for outages

http://apps.coned.com/stormcenter_external/default.html

Um, forget my post…daughter finally picked up…Since she has the day off, she was, uh, sleeping late. :D

soozie-I heard that Brooklyn is already experiencing outages. :frowning:
Oops, overlapped! Glad she had a chance to sleep in. :)

Winds have picked up in NH. Just got an email from son - I asked him if he’s going to be in the office all day or leaving early. We have a generator in the office so I guess I don’t have to worry too much about power.

My SIL lost her power in Monmouth Co. near the ocean this morning. Been watching cams of Cape May–flooding all over. Bay near us is rising close to road level; hoping if it crosses it not too much flows as far as our place.

90 mph gusts predicted for DC later today… I don’t think D1’s apartment complex did anything to protect their windows. There are also tons of big trees around her apartment (close to Rock Creek Park). Hoping the windows stay put. :(

Hope everyone remembers that the cell phone towers will become overloaded because of the emergency situation and as I told my D whose BF is in NYC do not panic if you cannot reach him quickly, be calm and keep trying via email, facebook and txt. Many times txt messages with go through much easier than voice. My thoughts are with all of you facing this storm. I suspect my D will be getting heavy winds and rain only but it still a bit worrying since last summer a microburst hit in her town and wiped out 2 blocks of downtown, she asked me if that was possible again because of this storm, I did not know what to say except I dounbt it but dont drive anywhere if you dont HAVE to, stay inside as much as possible and listen to the radio. Good luck everyone.

[Hurricane Sandy Texts From Your Mom](Hurricane Sandy Texts From Your Mom)

D1 just sent (from DC). :)

NW CT here. Wind is now starting to gust. We live in the middle of the woods, so that is not particularly welcome!

it’s all Snookie’s fault. We are being punished for “The Jersey Shore”.

As you should be!!! Lol.

Hey, don’t blame us! Those folks weren’t even from NJ!

Wind is starting to pick up in DC area.

Now they’re predicting wind gusts of 90 mph in Burlington, VT!

CT highways shut down. Last time I remember roads being shutdown was the blizzard in the mid-late-70s.

What is the situation currently around Portland Maine?

My D lives in the Lehigh Valley Pa area. Her employer was not closed this morning and she had to go into work. She doesn’t have any vacation or personal days so she needed to go.

I’m getting worried. We texted a bit this morning but I’ve tried a couple of times but haven’t had any response. I am sure she is alright but I wish I knew what was going on. Any one have any news from that area?

S is in Pittsburgh. His flight got in last night. I’m not too worried about him since his work site is near his hotel. Just glad his flight made it in. He is going on a cruise on Saturday, so glad it wasn’t this week!

I got home just before the 1:00 highway closings. The weather here is deteriorating rapidly and its very windy.
