Franklin Graham calling on alumni to stop donating to Duke

He wants Duke to end the new policy of allowing a Muslim call to prayer on Fridays.

Any chance this will have an impact on donations and/or get Duke to reverse its policy?

Funny that Graham calls upon the Universities true God, the almighty dollar, to get this decision overturned.

Wait, does Duke forbid the ringing of bells, the lighting of trees, or the lighting of candles for various holidays, or will that call only add to the numerous ways students’ faith is allowed to appear on campus?

Well, it’s a free country. He’s entitled to call on other alumni to stop donating and they are free to accede or ignore.

It’s my understanding the call to prayer is being broadcast over campus, which is the distinction to me.

It might result in some people giving more to Duke, because they don’t like being told what to do. Franklin Graham is certainly not as smart as his father was.

I’m a Duke alum, and after reading his comments - I think it’s time to start donating!

scout59 – Yes. How true. Franklin does an enormous amount of good work through Samaritan’s Purse. He should stick to what he does best and leave the preaching and politicking to others.

^^^ Our (mainstream large) church just decided to end its work with Samaritan’s Purse and divert that mission funding/effort to an organization with an attitude that doesn’t make us embarassed! I think SP, anymore, is just Graham’s way of getting on the ground in order to aggressively evangelize and scare and …well. I’m not a fan, and less so, now. Not to mention he makes life difficult for every NGO and charity that doesn’t have an anti-Muslim chair.

Duke has reversed its policy: the call to prayer will be still be done, but in the quad not from the tower.
