Franklin & Marshall supplement??

Alright, they ask “What does being a Diplomat mean to you?” (yes, Diplomat with a capital)

I’m really confused, because a Diplomat may mean a person who maintains relations with other governments and suchlike, or it may mean the college’s athletic teams sharing a common name ‘the Diplomats’.

I don’t know what I should address in the essay. Please somebody give me a hint??

Without prior knowledge of the school, I can tell you with 99% certainty that they’re asking “What would going to our school mean to you?”

I would guess that they mean the more broad definition of diplomat:

a person who has skill in dealing with other people

rather than the specific definition:

a person who represents his or her country’s government in a foreign country : someone whose work is diplomacy

However, if you ask on the F&M forum, members there might have a more informed answer:

@entomom:

While that may also be true, considering that the school mascot/sports teams are the Diplomats, it is probably safe to assume they are referring to their own school.

OK thanks guys, I was suspecting the broad meaning. I’m gonna write it now :-)

^^^ I agree with howaboutno. It is likely that “Diplomat” is the term that Franklin & Marshall students use to refer to themselves.

Go the the college website and do a search for the term “Diplomat.” My guess is you’ll find it means more than just the school sports team.

Entomom - The fact that the word is capitalized suggests that it’s a proper name, and not just the common word “diplomat."

Exactly why I said “I would guess” and referred the OP to the F&M forum.
