Fraternities at Southwestern University

Hi, I was looking at the webpage, and it seems there is a lot of greek life at southwestern. Because I am an international student I know little or nothing about frats other than what I’ve seen in movies. And I doubt the portrayal in “Old School” would be concidered accurate by any standards.

Can anyone comment on these ? What they are like, their social status, the types of members, wether they are snobby and elitist, etc. ?

Kappa Alpha Order

Kappa Sigma

Phi Delta Theta

Pi Kappa Alpha

Is it even possible to join if you are non-american?

In theory, it should be absolutely possible to join as a foreign student. However, every greek system/campus is different and unfortunately there are some campuses where your status might be held against you. I don’t know if Southwestern is one of those places (I don’t even know where Southwestern is located!) But there is never any harm in at least meeting the guys and seeing if it would be a good fit for you.

Yes, you can join a fraternity as an international. Recruitment is during January, so you will have the fall semester to get to know the different fraternities and decide which ones interest you.

As for what each fraternity is like, that is highly variable. Even during the four years I was there the reputations changed a bit. When I went to my 25th reunion last year, the former “stoner” fraternity was the only one not on probation.

As I said, you’ll have plenty of time to figure out what each fraternity is like and if you want to join one.
