What are considered the elite Fraternities at UMD??most popular, most involved, best parties, most respected etc.

I know Pike is the crazy frat with a lot of partying

From what I can tell from one semester here, the well known frats are Pike, ZBT and TEP. The first two have had issues with hazing and date rape. My sister is a junior here and says any girls with self respect stay away from the first two. Greek life’s not for me but a bunch of my friends are talking about joining TEP - they throw crazy parties and you’ll make it through pledging alive. Not to mention you don’t have to worry about them creeping out your sister.

Also Black Greek Life … Kappas, Alphas, Ques

People who are not in fratnerities/sororities at MD don’t consider any of them “elite” or “not elite.” They just consider them a place to party for free/cheap. Though, as a previous poster said, some frats have “bad” reputations. PIKE is definitely one of them - a lot of second and first-hand stories circulating about date rape. I suppose some frats have “nerdy” reputations, but I don’t really consider that a bad thing…

Otherwise, I wouldn’t put too much stock in what other frats or other sororities think are “elite” - of course people always think the ones they and their friends are in are the best  Pick the guys you fit in with most. Pick the guys you feel like are fun, mature, respectful, care about schoolwork and others (and throw a good party every now and then haha). Know your limits when it comes to hazing - don’t put yourself or others in danger. And that’s really all there is to it.
