Fraternities at University of Virginia

I am applying to UVA and really want to be in a fraternity, what are the best and worst fraternities at UVA?

You are more likely to get an answer over at the UVa forum on this website. With a search, you will find some past discussion on this website. There are about 35 to 40 fraternities, including several ethnic fraternities that are not on the Interfraternity Council list.

One interesting thing about frats at UVA is that several of them were founded on the UVA campus. I’m a Pike, and it was founded at UVA in 1868 (March 1, in fact - happy belated 144th!).

That said, it doesn’t matter what someone things are the best or worst. What matters is how well you fit in. Keep in mind that for all we make of it, fraternities are just social clubs. Figure out which guys you enjoy hanging out with the most and try to get a bid there.

And for goodness sake: if someone tells you to do something you don’t want to do like take a beating or chug a fifth, do this…say, “No, thanks. I’m good.” If they’re you’re friends, it will be cool (it worked for me). If they’re not, then they were going to put you in harm’s way and best you find out sooner than later.
