fraternities being sanctioned by the university

i don’t get the point

can frats exist without being endorsed by the college?

if the houses are off campus, why are they affiliated with the university at all?

can frats that aren’t endorsed its university exist?

Yes, but most natioanals require school approval. It would just be a club.

fraternities need this thing called insurance. without it, the frat isn’t much fun. insurance companies in the united states won’t insure fraternities. national fraternities get foreign insurance agencies to insure the frats.

local frats, if ever sued, usually fold rather quickly–and the exec board is generally held personally liable.

There are chapters that exist sub rosa, without university support and recognition, thought it’s obviously not common. However, the University of Colorado-Boulder IFC, did voluntarily choose to disassociate themselves from the University which has surprisingly led to a revitalization of the CU-B Greek system.

Still have a long way to go, but good stuff is happening.

The NPC sororities at Harvard are not recognized by the university but they are all doing just fine. :)
