fraudulent phone call

I’ve heard/read that steps labeled how to “opt out” confirm that the line is active, ensuring further communication from the original number, as well as others. Anyone know if that is accurate?

As with @Chedva I am now getting spam calls that leave messages in Chinese or Japanese too
I heard that as well @travelnut. It seems to be the case for the most annoying “charities” that claim to take you off only to find you are called more than ever

That’s what I heard, too. Some of those little rat turds can share with the others that the number is “live” and answered by a sucker.

Great…so someone who presses #2 to be removed from the call list are actually just verifying that they are a live human? And then the nbr gets sold to even more entities??

Yup. Seems to be the case. Any time Mr. answers the IRS call on his phone, the number of fraudulent calls increases exponentially.

It’s a shame, but all these spam calls have taught me to just not answer the phone unless it’s a number I recognize. Lots of times I let the number go to my voice mail but then, if/when the person announces themselves as a real person, I pick up the phone.

It was mentioned further up the thread but NoMoRobo is amazing. It catches about 90% of the spam calls and hangs up on them after 1 ring. I highly recommend it!

I screen calls now as well. Don’t pick up any number I don’t recognize. Of course, I get really annoyed when I miss I call I actually wanted! Anyone else ever call someone and realize they aren’t saying “hello” until you do in case you are a robocall?

These scams are such an invasion of privacy.

Sadly, nomorobo doesn’t work with an AT&T landline.

Nomorobo doesn’t work with old copper wired land lines. It does work with ATT.
Nomorobo also has an app for mobile phones.

I put it on my dad’s phone yesterday and it stopped three calls within the hour–he was thrilled!

I have AT&T home phone through Uverse and I use Nomorobo. It works for known spam numbers but it seems like the majority of fraudulent calls I’ve been receiving on my land line are the ones that spoof your area code and exchange. There’s no way for Nomorobo to intercept those.

I use Robokiller on my iPhone to catch spam calls there. It works pretty well but costs $2.99 a month. I’m looking for something free. Any suggestions?
