is there a better step by step process?</p>

<p>You both have to apply for a PIN in order to sign the form electronically.</p>

<p>Start at the top left - the before you file or getting ready link. It will walk you through applying for the pins,etc. and there are documents that explain how everything works. It’s not difficult, just a bit time consuming…</p>

<p>How long does it take for the PIN to be assigned? I applied for my son earlier in the week and still haven’t received a PIN yet.</p>

<p>My dad and I chose the four-digit pin. I think it asks you near the end of the application. And after we submitted, it told us that the pin will be processed within 3 days, but we were allowed to automatically use it for the FAFSA.</p>
