Freaking out don't know where to go

I am very intersted in studying political science and international relations and i have no idea where to choose to go to college. I am between Ohio State-Honors, GWU-ELiot SChool, Maryland-Scholars, and BRandies. At brandies i was accepted as a mid year student. DOes anyone no about the poly-sci/international rlation programs at these schools. Would it be worth going to BRAndeis or GWU because of their prestige even though they are 4 TIMES more expensive than OSU-honors. Also does anybody know how easy it is to get into the maryland honors program from the scholars program.

Thank u

Go to Ohio State, especially considering it’s cheaper. Since you’re worried about prestige, here’s a few pertinent rankings about OSU:

London School of Economics rankings (variable accuracy):
-Ranked OSU’s political science program 4th in the world

US News and World Report rankings (the standard rankings):
-Ranked OSU’s political science program 15th in the nation
-Ranked OSU’s american politics program 7th in the nation
-Ranked OSU’s comparative politics program 14th in the nation
-Ranked OSU’s international politics program 13th in the nation

Plus, you get the honors program. :)

yea i knew that i guess i was just worried cause OSU was not in a prime place for politics like DC or Boston

That’s true, but there are plenty of opportunities for you to get experience in D.C. if you attend school elsewhere. Many colleges (including OSU) offer co-ops or internships in D.C. that will give you plenty of political experience.

Yo, Ohio is very popular in Washington right now.

Look strongly at what GW has to offer. You’re in the most international city in the world where decisions are made every day that affect millions – and for political science & IR, what could be a better location? Also, classes and seminars are taught by nationally known politicos and media, so if this is really what you want to do, look hard at being in DC and at GW. Also, internships are available to GW students working in various DC & government agencies. Even better.

anybody know anything about maryland’s polysci program. Like how does it compare to GW. I lovethe campus plus it is also close to DC. And they gave me some merit scholership so it would also be half the price of GW but still more than OSU

Yeah, go to Maryland. Its a much nicer campus, a better school, and its close to DC. I think its the right balance between GWU/ OSU.

Slipper’s got a good point – also, the interships/employment ops from UMD in DC are comparable to GW’s –

Career office at MD says most students do three internships during their time at MD - govt., sciences, engineering, business, associations, abroad, etc. etc. - DC is one of the “career centers” of the globe, so have no fears on that score.

I believe you can apply for Honors after first semester - check Honors website (email or phone) for details of requirements.

thanx for the information

Politics is not only an international sport. OSU is smack dab in the middle of the capital of a major state. Plenty of internships available there, and state politics are all over the local media.
