Freaking out. Will I lose my scholarship?

So for BU I got a pretty substantial scholarship - full tuition. I understand that there are certain guidelines I have to abide by in order to keep my eligibility for it, specifically regarding my hs grades. My grades this year have been pretty good, mostly A’s and a couple of B’s, but for this term, I’ve been hit with lots of tests in preparation for the AP exams. I’ve been stressing about them, but it’s mostly AP Econ that’s got me worried. My teacher gave us a Macro final that’s worth 40% of our final term grade, and let’s just say I absolutely failed it. Now, he’s letting us retake it this week and I’m going to study like crazy, but what happens if I fail it again?

If my last term Econ grade turns out to be a D or an F, will BU rescind their scholarship offer?

The guidelines for their merit awards said that I have to have “Satisfactory Academic Progress” to receive the scholarship, but what constitutes “satisfactory”?

does this grade show up on your report card?
Because if it does, you’re screwed.

Satisfactory usually refers to at least a C.

A C should be enough to keep the scholarship, though a D will be stretching it. Don’t even think about getting an F if you want to keep the scholarship.

They’d probably lower it…but I doubt one failing grade will lower it significantly.

I think they look at your average grade, so even if you can an F last marking period it will probably average in with the other three.

Also BU has like 3000 kids per grade so idk how detailed their checks are but you should still try hard and talk to a counselor or something. Maybe email someone at BU about your concerns?

Call them and ask. I know a lot of people who called to find out if dropping or failing a class would hurt them or cause them to rescind their acceptance.

Hi,

Honestly, I don’t believe BU checked my report card after senior year of high school. This is likely in part due to the fact that there are thousands of students in each class. In any case, I doubt that they would rescind admission or reduce your financial aid, especially if you explained the situation. This is only one class as well. For now, I wouldn’t worry about it - you got a great package so be happy about it.

Good luck,
Brendon
