I finally bought a Roku stick to use Netflix and Amazon prime more easily. During setup it gave a variety of channels to add. Some said free, but once I clicked on them you have to pay (Spectrum). Are there any truly free channels? Another called tubitv says it’s free but you have to register.
A lot are free, but the free content is typically not all that great. There’s so much I wouldn’t know what to recommend, as it really depends on your interests. Spectrum is an app for subscribers to Times Warner cable, so it wouldn’t be free – just like Amazon prime requires prime membership to use.
Some channels are available free to watch recent episodes on-demand, including Comedy Central and the CW. I subscribe to Sling to get most channels. Hulu also offers a lot if you do want to subscribe to something.
Many of the ones that are free have such limited or obscure offerings they’re basically useless.
I watch CBS NEWS live 24/7 when I exercise indoors, it repeats itself about every half hour.
Other than that , just Netflix.
Unfortunately there is not a lot offered. Channels are looking for income streams and offering free content just does not pay the bills.
You can watch your local news, NBC, CW, Freeform, Newsmax, and other channels. Just search online for the best free Roku channels.
I tried tubitv. It’s free content but has short commercials throughout. They seem shorter and less frequent than network tv. The movies and tv shows are generally older. They do have a category “not on Netflix”. I’ll probably stick to Netflix and Amazon prime, though.
Also there are some PBS offerings that are free, such as PBS kids (good for grandkids in the 3-6 age range)
