Freezing my fingers off paid off....

This is my little story about my application (successful) to Yale:

Silly me decided to procrastinate my apps until the last minute. But of course, since Yale is so unique, their application deadline was also special (December 31st). Conveniently enough, my dad wanted to see the ball drop in Times Square. Also conveniently enough, Yale’s deadline slipped my mind…until I was in the car all the way in the middle of Manhattan (and I certainly did not want to mention this mishap to my dad).

Luckily, I had Internet access on my iPhone. And then, I found out, I never uploaded my completed essays. At that point, I messaged my friends like crazy (the ones who I sent my essays to a while back) for a copy…for them to email it to me. I finally found one. But it was old…As for the second essay I wrote for the Additional Info section, nobody had it.

So, poor me, stood in the middle of Times Square and punched in, on the tiny iPhone keyboard, a rewrite of the entire 2nd essay. Also had to edit the old one. And then I discovered, I also didn’t have the Why Yale component! tap tap tap tap furiously while in the glitz of Times Square and the neon Coca Cola bottle. To add to all that, I did not put in the answers for the other short answers.

Disregarding the tiny iPhone keys, the nuances of rewriting entire essays from memory, and the sense of doom and panic, I still had to face the weather. The geniuses at Apple created the iPhone, but I had no way to type without skin contact. And there was no way for me to finish typing with one hand. And thus, while being rained on by confetti, my fingers became so painful and numb that I had trouble directing them towards the right keys. They were twitching in the wind chill (I think temperature was teens), as the 15 minute announcement blared over the giant screen. I also had snot running down my nose.

I finally finished typing everything before 11:50, and I managed to fish out a credit card so I could pay for the app. Everything was done and sent with a few minutes to spare…right about time for the countdown.

And of course, the next day, I was sick as I finished the rest of my apps.

Painful (but cool) lesson.

oh wow. stress to last you a lifetime.

wow, that’s really admirable. Congratulations on your acceptance! :)

that’s enough for a good essay in itself :)

i love yale so much i froze my effing fingers off just to get you your precious essays :)
