Hello I will be taking French 1 my freshman year, and I’m wondering if colleges will look down on me because of it. I’m coming from a small Catholic school (in the same town as the public high school) where only Spanish was offered. I honestly don’t like Spanish, though, and my parents both really wanted me to take French. A lot of freshmen will be taking French 2, and I’m worried that I won’t look as impressive. This also means I won’t be able to take AP French. Am I at a disadvantage?

I don’t think you’ll be at a disadvantage. It should be ok as long as you take at least 3/4 levels of French. But you could try to ask your French teacher if you could possibly advance yourself through French 2 next summer so you could take French 3 with your peers next year and reach AP French if it’s possible and you’re interested in it

You are definitely not at a disadvantage. If you really want to take AP French, you could do French 2 next summer.

I guess Harvard won’t give you admission because they require French/Spanish/Italian/etc 4 Honors for Freshman…

its ok though… Princeton’s not a bad school

French 1 is intended to be taken as a freshman. You will be at no disadvantage.
