French at McGill

One of the things I like about McGill and Montreal is that it has a french influence. How much of a French influence do you see at McGill? When walking around, do you hear more french than english?

absolutely not. as the matter of facts, you will hardly hear french at all if you stay in downtown areas. A small annoying thing is that many signs, ads and free newspapers are in french. Otherwise, … I mean, thousands of us survived ??

Speaking to my friends at McGill, they tell me that basically if you want to learn French, the opportunity is there for you. I think as long as you are motivated to learn the language and/or culture, you can. It definitely does not dominate the area however. If you visit, you’ll find more English than French.

McGill is an English language University.

Hardly heard any French on campus when visiting.

Both languages are spoken in commercial enterprises; anecdotally, much less French in Montreal than Quebec.
