Are they out of style? I had a friend who told me they were sort of not the in thing right now, even though they are pretty. I think she might be correct, as I only see Middle aged women wear them. What do you think?
French are definitely out.
I think definitely out of style. Acrylics are also out of style in my area.
I disgree. I think the french manicure is timeless. I was just in the nail salon this morning and the woman next to me got a french manicure. My nails grow like crazy so I wear my own mid length nails in trendy colors. I did notice that there were more customers with natural nails than acrylics today though.
An American manicure is similar yet much more subtle. Acrylic or gel is still popular around here, but much shorter than the long claws that were the norm.
@4MyKidz I am so jealous. It is impossible to find a clean nail salon that does natural nails near me.
The last place I went to seemed confused when I asked where I could wash my hands before the manicure. The technician did not wash her hands between clients. After she clipped and shaped my nails, I paid, washed my hands, and left. Yuk!
@MaterS Gross! Some shops look at me strangely when I request a color change or a manicure only. It seems that long claw like acrylics or shellac is the rage where I live. I usually do my own nails every Sunday while watching football because I get tired of nail shops trying to sell me stuff that will damage my own nails.
I’m getting married and was told no one does french tips anymore, whereas I thought that was the thing to do for weddings. Apparently the trendier option is to do the whole nail in a light color called something like “ballet slippers” or “porcelain.”
@rebeccar LOL and thank you. My D makes fun of me because I have used ballet slippers almost exclusively for as long as I can remember. Glad to hear I am finally trendy!!
I still see french manis here but I think they look dated.
I have never been a fan of the really long acrylics.
I think a short French manicure is the LBD for nails, quite elegant and classy. Not sure how it can be dated or out of style. I do my own, but that is the look I prefer.
out of style.
More of a summer thing
I think about this two ways.
You can conform to the current trend. and there is a lot to be said for that approach. Or you can pick a look you like such as a french manicure and make it your look regardless what everyone else is doing. If you create a consistent look over a number of years, I think that is more stylish, and maybe elegant, than anything else. ymmv
It is also just easier on some of us as we age than trying to stay on top of trends.
Thanks all…I think it’s confirmed they are out of style. I think they are lovely, and they will be fashionable again.
I get them on occasion and I don’t care if they are in or out.
I have never been a fan of them. My H thinks they look horrible.
