French Polynesia

We’re thinking about a trip sometime this fall. Not sure which island yet, but leaning towards Nuku Hiva or Rangiroa. Does anyone have experience with this type of trip? To be honest, I don’t even know where to begin… I thought about packaging hotel and airfare through Expedia, but feel like that will end up limiting our options. We will have up to 10 days to spend there. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!

This just came through my emails:

That was a great read, @doschicos B-)

I’ve been to Tahiti and Moorea, only. Not a fan of Tahiti – the beaches that I saw weren’t so great and the island itself is pretty noisy and crowded. Moorea, on the other hand, was great. It’s a short hop from Tahiti, has fabulous beaches and hotels, and beautiful, crystal clear water with coral reefs right off of the shore. Caveat: I was there around 2002, so things may have changed.

I’ve been to Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora as well as Tetiaroa, before there were any hotels there. Bora Bora was fabulous . Tetiaroa was jaw-dropping gorgeous. This was 25 years ago. I was just researching returning last night. Costco has quite a few packages at all price points. They have all the major hotels in Bora Bora as well as the one hotel on Tetiaroa. I wouldn’t hesitate to book through Costco.

Thanks for tip on Costco! I hadn’t even thought of that, but it’s a great idea…

After talking with the boss last night, we are now leaning more towards Bora Bora due to the availability of hotels and things to do there. Tetiaroa looks great though!

I thought part of the point of that area was not doing much of anything besides relaxing, swimming, snorkel or scuba, maybe a hike or two, reading, eating and drinking. Don’t forget naps.

@fractalmstr Another option I learned about was Pleasant Holidays. I haven’t used them myself though.

Great, I will check out that site. When are you thinking of going back to FP, bouders?

I was thinking of going in 2019, but the carpet could use replacing and I can’t afford both at the moment, so we’ll see.
