French

I was just wondering, how would you caracterize the amount of French students at McGill?

Is there a lot of them?

I am one of them :)

Seriously … I think there are few french students … the thing is simple because you are french you don’t have to pay the fees for international student but you pay the fees as if you were a student from Montreal … So going to Mcgill is not so expensive at the end for a french kid.

But if i can ask you the question : Why do you want to know if there are a lot of french students ?

Like how “few”?

Cause I have the dual citizenship, I am half French, and I’ve been accepted at McGill but still, I don’t want to study in a French-from-France surrounding, as I wanna see new things, meet new people, experience an utterly new country…

Actually, there are 814 French citizens enrolled at McGill according to the website. If you mean francophone students, they make up about 18% of enrolment or about 6000 students in total.

The thing is … we are not going to speak french … and I mean I am from France I am living in the USA right now and I really want to go in something between the USA and France. I think that Mcgill is perfect for that … There are a lot of exchange student from different country too in Mcgill …

ArtemisF, you literally do not need to speak 1 word of french to go to McGill. Only about 18% of students that go to McGill claim french is their first language. My cousin from the U.S goes to McGill doing sciences, the only thing he knows what to say in french is “Bonjour” meaning “Hello” in english.

If you’re afraid of a lack of diversity, I can say that there aren’t enough French from France at McGill to form cliques. Really, for any cultural background, you’d really have to go out of your way to remain “surrounded by x” at McGill. Chances are you’ll make friends (or at least acquaintances) with people from all over the world.
