Are there any grocery stores anywhere near ann arbor or in Michigan where I can find fresh toro or live uni for sale?

You can try Hua Xing. They have live fish but I don’t know what kinds they have exactly.

here is the place all Japanese corporate people shop

One World Market novi mi

only 1 place you can have real Japanese sushi in Ann Arbor is
Yamato Japanese Restaurant. key for get real deal(best fish of day) is chat with chef/owner. nice men.

if you want real, authentic japanese sushi, go to Ajishin in Novi, near One World Market (off of grand river). The toro there is unreal, and their udon is 2nd only to udon baught in japan. i personally love uni and toro (they even have ama-ebi) too, so that’s where I go.

I actually know a really good place for sushi and sashimi… ajishin in Novi. Best I had in the state of michigan, granted you dont really expect great japanese food in America, let alone outside of major cities. They are always out of toro but their sushi quality is decent

I am actually more curious where I can buy them as grocery because I am trying to make Chef Masa’s uni risotto with truffles… I need them fresh because the problem with uni is that if it is slightly unfresh, you might be able to tolerate it on sushi, but the aroma grows exponentially when you heat them and it would be unbearable in a risotto.
