Freshman bonding

Are there any rituals or ceremonies that all freshman go through when they first come to u of c?

Not really. There are events during O-week with this goal in mind, and your house will probably have some silly kind of bonding game the first night, but by and large you’re left to your own devices.

There are many activities during O-week, including a reception on the 95th floor of the John Hancock building. My S had a great time, especially taking the Calc placement test on Sunday after the Saturday move-in. :)

Yes, the Calculus placement test is really where the fun begins…

Although the swimming in nails and the three-legged sack race through a mine field also merits some Fun-O times.

Hell, I thought the ritual sacrifice, followed by blood orgy, really brought me closer to my classmates.

I think it is interesting how the U. of C. makes things so fun for a week and then bam, the work begins…

“bam”…or “BAAAAAM/SLAP”?..maybe even a “SLICE”

I like the “slice” - it sounds dangerous, which is what the U. of C. is…

Especially with someone like Eric Egan attending

Oh Eric, you are dangerous!

But dangerous, when it comes to you, is a very good thing. I can’t imagine attending the U. of C. without you and your eccentricities. ;)

Hey, we forgot about the 12 mile hike through hell, meeting satan himself, dancing on the river of stix, tickling satan’s three headed, seven eyed puppy and then taking the calc exam on Sunday.

Just an average day at UChicago-

yeah I do question the timing of the calc placement test… what is up with that, really? And on top of it, the people who do well get to have fun with Honors Calc… which I hear is supposed to be fairly interesting but extremely painful… I think that doing well on it, taking 150s, and then getting the Honors book if you really are THAT interested (which I did, and which I am) is a pretty good option

I’m shooting for some kind of remedial course.
