chc2006,
I can’t imagine the motivations and what type of people are saying these things. Surely by reading all the posts here and on the BUnite site at LIVEJOURNAL, where you can interact with current BU students, you are not getting this viewpoint. Kids party at any college including quite a bit at BU but BU never hits the party school rankings. I don’t understand what kind of people would undermine your decision since its so important for a young adult to make a choice on what is the best fit for them There are pros and cons to every school and kids that choose just because some magazine makes a living on coming up with arbitrary rankings may regret that choice. Its normal to have doubts but you need to decide what feels right for you and it is usually more about the social life, academics, location, etc. that make your college experience a good one. If you take out CGS the acceptance rate changes and there are still about 15,000 studenst that are rejected, even with CGS ,compared to maybe 1500 at a smaller school. Nowadays kids are applying to 8-10 schools so averages are skewed all around. Big schools have a harder time estimating housing so some are more likely to over admit and you see that for the last few years 0 kids have gotten in off BU’s waitlist so this shows the challenges of trying to come up with numbers that make sense.

The current Frehman profile, attending students not just accepted, has 25% with over 1410 SAT so how can one say it isn’t a challenging school? If you believe these negatives then its fine to hesitate, in fact normal for all prospective students at any college, but ultimately you need to trust your own well informed ideas on where you’ll be happy.
